Frequently asked questions

Q: What resources are available to support Values Education in the new series?

A: In the book, the core values from the EDB values education curriculum are all covered and immersed in the Reading passages. In particular, the Junior Ambassador Project focuses on the value of ‘National identity’. To make the whole values education journey more meaningful, there is a Values Pledge at the end of the book to give students useful tips and ideas on how to extend these positive values into their daily lives.

And in terms of supporting teaching resources, we have extra ideas in Teachers’ Guide as well as step-by-step PPT to facilitate the discussion of core values in class. And if any schools have specific demands on conducting values education across various subjects, we offer additional value education research worksheets that can be readily used, or easily adapted to cater for their specific needs.

Q: Does the new edition cover more vocabulary than the previous edition?

A: Yes – while we retain most of the popular themes and topics, we have expanded the coverage of words in not only the main vocab section but also in an additional section that we call Vocab Booster. The pool of vocabulary is definitely larger and is updated to cover the most common word usage.

Q: We have quite a lot of school-based materials developed for the first edition; how different would you say the second edition is from the previous edition? Would I still be able to use the school-based materials?

A: We have maintained a large part of the themes and topics from the previous edition; we have also maintained a similar grammar spine, with additions of some ‘new’ items that teachers have repeatedly requested over the years. We don’t foresee a great scale of changes needed for any school-based materials.

Q: Is there a RaC section in the book?

A: Yes, there is a Reading across the Curriculum section with three reading passages in each book to cover various subjects in the areas of Culture, Technology and Science. These passages, which come with comprehension questions, can be used as extra reading passages as well as enrichment materials to broaden pupils’ exposure to the real world. There are also RaC videos to support understanding of the passages.

Q: Our school is using Google Classroom. Is it necessary for us to use your digital platform instead?

A: While PEC offers a one-stop platform for teachers to share resources with students, it also supports Google Classroom. You can check out resources on our platform and then share them directly on Google Classroom with just a button. There is no need to download the resources onto your local drive before sending them out. The transition from PEC to Google Classroom is seamless.

Q: Is the new digital platform fee-based?

A: It comes with the subscription of student books. Each student and teacher will get an account upon purchase of the student book.
